Losing to Win

by: Fabian Saide Last week, I was planning this month’s article when Cata our Head of Community interrupted me with an important question, “Hey Fabian, how are we going to celebrate Paykii’s four-year anniversary?” Being caught up in the day to day of growing the business, our upcoming anniversary had slipped my mind, but a milestone this amazing must be celebrated! After some reflection, I’d like to share the most valuable lesson I’ve learned in this wonderful adventure of entrepreneurship. Paykii has been going strong for four years! That’s 1,460 days. 35,040 hours. 2,102,400 glorious minutes of changing the way people make payments across borders worldwide! As a team, we’ve shared so many incredible wins, but we’ve also lost a fair number of battles along the way. In losing, we’ve learned invaluable lessons about various ways not to do things and each loss has helped us grow stronger. But modern technology birthed a whole new kind of competition in the form of Uber and Lyft. Around the same time, the University of Michigan released a study showing a decline in new teen driver licenses. Beyond the newfound accessibility and convenience of ord

by: Fabian Saide Last month I had the opportunity to attend Inc Monterrey, one of the largest events for entrepreneur growth and innovation in Mexico. While I was waiting for the next session on my schedule to begin, a session with John and Mark Cronin of Crazy Socks caught my eye. Every consumer and entrepreneur on Earth seek happiness, but Mark Cronin and his son John have taken happiness to a whole new level in building their multi-million dollar venture with love. Their business model is simple, yet incredibly powerful. They don’t just sell socks. No, they sell happiness, inspiration and hope. It just happens to come with an awesome pair of socks! Go-getter entrepreneurs we are, a fellow attendee asked what their magic was, presumably hoping to bottle it and feed their own budding business. Mark’s response hit me like a bolt of lighting: Magic is opportunities given. Crazy Socks is a venture born and bred by John, a bright entrepreneur who just happens to have D
