Losing to Win

by: Fabian Saide

Last week, I was planning this month’s article when Cata our Head of Community interrupted me with an important question, “Hey Fabian, how are we going to celebrate Paykii’s four-year anniversary?”

Being caught up in the day to day of growing the business, our upcoming anniversary had slipped my mind, but a milestone this amazing must be celebrated! After some reflection, I’d like to share the most valuable lesson I’ve learned in this wonderful adventure of entrepreneurship.
Paykii has been going strong for four years! That’s 1,460 days. 35,040 hours. 2,102,400 glorious minutes of changing the way people make payments across borders worldwide!

As a team, we’ve shared so many incredible wins, but we’ve also lost a fair number of battles along the way. In losing, we’ve learned invaluable lessons about various ways not to do things and each loss has helped us grow stronger.

Many people fear to make mistakes or failure, but I encourage you to embrace the gift of lessons learned; failure is truly one of the greatest teachers! If you launch to a market and find it unresponsive, ask why and try a different strategy. If a deal falls through, embrace the lesson and try again. And, if your new product isn’t a hit, explore the reasons and come back with an even bigger hit!

As entrepreneurs, we start our businesses with a million dollars in moral capital, but very little in the way of cash capital. It’s that moral capital that drives us to get up and push forward every single day.

As the years pass, our moral capital decreases and take a backseat. It’s in those trying moments of loss and failure that we need to find our moral capital again and use it to refuel our courage and self-belief.

By losing, we reflect, we find our power, we stand back up, and we push forward with renewed strength.

Martin Luther King Jr. famously said, “If you can’t fly then run if you can’t run then walk if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”

In the past 4 years, Paykii has continued to move forward and has successfully:
• Signed 15 institutional clients
• Added 20 incredible team members
• Processed more than 2.5 million transactions
• Grown network coverage to 19 countries and 600+ billers
• Opened 3 offices in Washington DC, USA, Monterrey, Mexico, and Dubai, UAE
• Shared millions of priceless laughs and memories that have made us stronger than ever

Thank you, everyone, for being part of this amazing story.
